《不安的旋律》讲述的是四个都市女孩成长的故事，四个不同行业不同性格的都市女性，在各自不同的的环境里经历挫折和困难，从迷茫逃离到勇敢面对，四个女人分别完成了各自的蜕变。。故事根据约翰·盖2004年所著传记《真实的玛丽·斯图亚特》改编。讲述了玛丽·斯图尔特（西尔莎·罗南 饰）幼年时就被带到法国与亨利二世的长子弗朗西斯订婚。但弗朗西斯在继位一年后去世，玛丽·斯图尔特顶住压力拒绝再婚。她回到了苏格兰，想要重新获得自己的王冠，但是此时的苏格兰与英格兰都在伊丽莎白一世（玛格特·罗比 饰）的统治之下。玛丽·斯图尔特通过努力，拿回了王室地位，但这也对伊丽莎白一世的统治造成了威胁。。A film director gathers his favorite actresses, those he worked with and those he loved.
